It’s November, and that means Thanksgiving is right around the corner. With so much to do and prepare for when it comes to  Thanksgiving in Kyle, Texas, your friends at Crosswinds decided to put together a list of the top five things to do to celebrate the holiday this year.

thanksgiving in kyle, new homes in Kyle, Crosswinds, master-planned community

Cook for the Family at your New Home in Kyle

One of the oldest and most standard of Thanksgiving traditions is cooking and eating a meal with loved ones.  What better excuse is there to invite your friends and family over to enjoy food, drinks and good company with you at home in Crossroads’ master-planned community?

Go Out to Eat

If you don’t feel like hosting a large get-together, you can always organize an evening out at a restaurant. Several options in and around Kyle stay open on turkey day, many with special menus crafted especially for the Holiday. Skip the long day cooking and all the cleanup and enjoy time with those you love.

Go see a movie at EVO Entertainment

Another tradition observed by several families is going out to see a movie together before or after having Thanksgiving dinner. There is no better place to watch movies this Thanksgiving in Kyle than EVO Entertainment. With movies, bowling, an arcade and restaurant on top of the concession stand, EVO 11 in Kyle is the place to spend your Thanksgiving this year.

Football and Turkey

If it’s Thanksgiving in the U.S., it also means its time for some football. Yet another beloved tradition, especially in Texas, Thanksgiving brings a lineup of three NFL games that last all day long. Set up camp in your favorite seat, sit back and watch every game unfold while spending time with those you love most, even if they root for the wrong team.

Make DIY decorations for dinner

Like to overachieve? If cooking dinner and cleaning up are not enough for the go-getter in you, then try making your own fall decorations for the big meal. There are lots of fun ways to personalize your home in Kyle this Thanksgiving. Try this collection of fun and original DIY projects to make your home feel amazingly Autumn.

Growth in Kyle, Tx

While many people in Kyle are excited about what growth and development can bring to the community, just as many worry about what it will cost in taxes to achieve these things. Kyle has started to look to developers to solve this problem. Some of their solutions include the creation of a Residential Style Guide, implementing special taxing districts and working with regional partners, so development can pay for itself.

What’s coming to Uptown Kyle?

A good example of future development by the city is a proposal to the work on Uptown Kyle, a mixed-use development. New additions could include sit-down restaurants, boutique retail shops, destination retail, and premium office space.

The proposal will ask Kyle’s city council to authorize tax increment financing, a special taxing tool, to help finance the public amenities on location that will benefit Kyle as a whole. This includes things such as enhanced streetscapes, plazas, water features, parking structures and decorative lighting.

Education in Kyle, Texas – Growth on the Rise

Opportunities for education in Kyle seem to be growing as fast as Hays County itself! After being named the 4th fastest growing county in the US by the Census Bureau last spring, there has been a lot of news about education that may impact or be of interest to many of our Crosswinds families. Take a look at these trending topics about the education in Kyle, including news about Kyle schools and HCISD.

Education in Kyle with HCISD

Plans for Growth by HCISD in Kyle Communities

HCISD expects to exceed 20,000 enrolled students for the 2018-19 school year. An increase of almost 20 percent from the 2012-13 school year. Even though HCISD is set to increase their capacity in the next year, demographic projections show that in the 2027-28 school year, HCISD expects to enroll more than 25,000 students. This means that more schools are needing to be built in order to keep up with population trends.

New Alternative Schools in Kyle

IDEA Public Schools, a statewide charter school network, opened its new campus in Kyle, south of Steeplechase Park, last month. The location will have two IDEA schools, the Academy and College Prep, and operate under the philosophy that all children should have the opportunity to go to college. The tuition-free charter school campus in Kyle serves K-3 and 6-7 grade levels. IDEA Public Schools holds a random lottery to ensure equal access for all applicants

Meanwhile, the Florida-based Doral Academy plans to open its Kyle/Buda campus for the 2020-21 school year. This tuition-free facility will focus on science, technology, engineering and math. Though it will enroll about 600 students K-6 to start, Doral Academy Texas plans to expand to serve K-12. The enrollment process is also determined by a lottery system.

ACC Hays Campus Opens State of the Art Public Safety Training Center

Back in August, Austin Community College opened a $22.4 million Public Safety Training Center at their Hays campus in Kyle. The PSTC will train students to become first responders in law enforcement and emergency medical service roles. The state-of-the-art facility includes an indoor firing range, emergency vehicle operation course, emergency situation simulation facility and a swift-water rescue course.

The ACC Hays campus opened in 2014, four years after HCISD voted in favor of joining the college system’s taxing district. Last year, it enrolled nearly 1,700 students. ACC Hays also has a co-enrollment program with Texas State University.

Why Kyle is Austin’s Next In-Demand Suburb

If you haven’t heard, Kyle, Texas is Austin’s next in-demand suburb and it’s no surprise! In Austin, home prices are on the rise and time spent on the market is decreasing, causing homebuyers to look elsewhere for their next home. While Round Rock and other northern suburbs are still hot areas, consumers are looking to the south, specifically Kyle. If we know a thing or two about our hometown, it’s that it is a great place to live, but there are many benefits that make it Austin’s next in-demand suburb.

city of Kyle, Kyle TX, Crosswinds, new homes in Kyle, master-planned community, new homes near Austin, Austin suburb, Austin’s next in-demand suburb

Proximity

First and foremost, one of the biggest reasons Kyle is becoming the next popular Austin suburb is because of how close it is to the city. Only 20 miles from downtown, our master-planned community in Kyle offers families a place to call home that’s close enough to Austin without having to actually be in Austin. This makes commutes manageable and family outings to the big city a breeze.

Affordable Homes

Another thing making Kyle Austin’s next in-demand suburb is the affordably-priced homes. In June, the median price for single-family homes in Austin was $388,000 while the median price for single-family homes in Hays County was $284,900. And if you are a young family looking to own your first home, Crosswinds offers homes built by our 3 amazing homebuilders starting from the $200s.

Thriving Local Business Scene

As you may have read from our Keeping it Kyle blog series, the local businesses in the area are thriving, and as they continue to thrive, so does our community. Along with many local businesses, the Kyle City Council also recently approved plans for a new business park located 5 minutes away from Crosswinds. The 500,000-square-foot development aims to attract new manufacturing businesses and bring more jobs to the area.

A City Designed for Families and Lifestyle

In Kyle, we always put families first. That’s why the city is beginning to roll out what they call “quality of life initiatives” to give families even more wonderful things to do in Kyle. These initiatives include signature events, recreational amenities and trails, just to name a few.

What do you think about Kyle, TX being Austin’s next in-demand suburb? If you’re already a resident, we hope you’re excited to see all the continued growth in our community. If you aren’t a resident yet, but are ready to be, contact Crosswinds today. We’d love to show you around our master-planned community and tell you all about our lovely city.

Back to School with Hays CISD

Sadly, summer break is coming to an end and it’s time to start getting ready to go back to school. For all our Crosswinds students and parents, here are some things to note for going back to school with Hays CISD and the specific Kyle schools that our master-planned community feeds into.

back to school, Hays CISD, Pfluger Elementary School, Chapa Middle School, Lehman High School, Crosswinds, Kyle Crosswinds schools

Going Back to Pfluger Elementary School

If your child is returning to Pfluger Elementary School, then you already know how great of a school it is, and if your kid is just now about to start Kindergarten or you just moved to Crosswinds, you’ll instantly fall in love with this school. At Pfluger, their mission is to encourage students to take educational risks and be accountable to themselves and others. To make sure your kiddos are all set to go back to school, here’s the Pfluger Elementary School supply list for all grades.

Going Back to Chapa Middle School

Middle school is a transitional time in a child’s life. Help your child find an activity they’ll love by looking at the great electives offered at Chapa Middle School. At Chapa, the Cougars put an emphasis on building pride through Character, Opportunity, Unity, Generosity, Accountability and Relationships. Get your middle schoolers all set on supplies with the Hays CISD general middle school supply list.

Going Back to Lehman High School

Time sure does fly! One moment you’re taking them to their first day of Kindergarten and the next they’re in high school. With even more opportunities for students to take classes that peak their interest, Lehman High School offers a wide array of electives and extra-curriculars. You and your teen can check them all out on the Departments page of the school’s website. For your high schooler’s school supplies, Hays CISD doesn’t have a standardized supply list for grades 9-12. For their first day of class, students should bring basic supplies like pens, pencils and paper. Each teacher will inform the students of the supplies they’ll need for that specific class.

While it can be sad when summer break ends because that means less opportunities for impromptu family time, we hope this helps you get your kid ready and pumped for another great school year at Hays CISD. To stay in the know about fun things regarding Hays CISD or the family-fun lifestyle of our master-planned community, be sure to follow Crosswinds on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
