1. Live on the Lawn

When: Thursday, April 5, 12, 19 & 26

Where: San Marcos Plaza Park – San Marcos

What Time: 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM

 Formerly the Spring Concert Series, Live on the Lawn in San Marcos is a live music series that is held on every Thursday in April. The best part about this event is that this event is completely free! The lineup is The Revs on April 5, The Georges on April 12, Those Nights on April 19 and Big Cedar Fever on April 26.

 2. Kyle Market Days

 When: Saturday, April 14

Where: Historic City Square Park – Kyle

What Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Do you know what our favorite day is? It’s the second Saturday of every month between April and September because that’s when we get to go to the Kyle Market Days. While some of these family fun things to do near Kyle involve having to get out and drive a bit, the Kyle Market Days are just right down the road from our master-planned community! You and your family will be able to shop for everything from fun little trinkets to fresh produce.

3. 72 Degrees Festival

When: Saturday, April 28

Where: San Marcos Plaza Park on the banks of San Marcos River

What Time: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Who doesn’t love live music? Better yet, who doesn’t love getting to hear live music and experience a wide array of cultures? The 72 Degrees Festival is sure to be one of the most family fun things to do near Kyle this coming month. Check out the full lineup online.

Starting off our list for a date night near Kyle is Nate’s. A local favorite, Nate’s in Buda is a great destination for whether you want your date night to actually be a morning or lunch date. They frequently have events including live music, which always makes for a fun date night!

Brooklyn’s Down South

Starting up our list of our top Mexican restaurants in Kyle is Spicy Bite! Serving up traditional and spicy grub in Kyle, they offer daily specials for every meal of the day. Their breakfast is the perfect way to start your morning, and to end the day on a sweet note, you can never go wrong with their Xango – a “fried cheesecake layered with caramel and wrapped as pastry tortilla.” While Spicy Bite may be closed on Mondays, they’re still open 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM Tuesday – Saturday and from 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Sunday.

Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant

Regional favorite among locals, Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant is a locally-owned family restaurant that started in San Marcos and has been able to spread throughout the neighboring cities, including our very own Kyle, TX! With 7 total locations, they’ve managed to keep the business completely in the family and still offer the same great family dishes they were serving in 1988. One of the most beautiful things about Garcia’s is that they also serve breakfast all day! So those Tex-Mex breakfast cravings can always be satisfied. Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant is open 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM Monday – Saturday and from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Sunday.

Casa Maria Mexican Restaurant

Another favorite that has multiple locations, Casa Maria Mexican Restaurant is one of our top Mexican restaurants in Kyle. Serving up delicious food since 1997, Casa Maria is more than just another restaurant. It’s the perfect place for a family gathering or a private dining experience for up to 60 guests. Aside from their restaurant, they also have a remarkable bakery. Whether you want to fill up your stomach on tasty Mexican food, satisfy your sweet tooth in their bakery or hang out in their bar, Casa Maria offers more things to do in Kyle than just eating. Casa Maria in Kyle is open Monday – Saturday 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM and on Sunday from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Holiday Wonder Express

When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 8 – December 30

Where: Wonder World Cave & Park – San Marcos

What Time: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Starting off our list with a nearly month-long event happening just southeast of our master-planned community in San Marcos, the Holiday Wonder Express will be a true winter wonderland (minus the snow) that your whole family is sure to enjoy! The event will have everything from a train ride to see lights and holiday displays to a candlelit walk into the caves for a cozy Christmas story.

Christmas Gift and Craft Market

 When: Saturday, December 9

Where: Kyle United Methodist Church – Kyle

What Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

If you need to get some extra gifts checked off your shopping list, then you’ll love this next event, and better yet, it’s in Kyle! The Christmas Gift and Craft Market will have all sorts of handcrafted items to purchase from several local vendors. There will also be live music, hot chocolate and a place where parents co drop their kids off to play while they do some shopping.

Austin Trail of Lights 

When: Saturday, December 9 – Saturday, December 23

Where: Zilker Park – Austin

What Time: 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Considerably one of the most famous holiday events near Kyle, the Austin Trail of Lights is a Christmas light display like no other. This isn’t just some kind of one and done event. One of our favorite things to do near Kyle is visit the incredibly pup-friendly bar/coffee shop Nate’s in Buda. Even their logo is an adorable Dachshund silhouette. At Nate’s you can enjoy live music, craft beer and the finest cocktails Buda has to offer. You can experience all of this and more with the comfort of knowing your dog is having a great time as well.

Austin

Austin is home to more than a few dog-friendly locations that are sure to get your pup’s tail wagging. Though there are dog-specific parks in Austin, we recommend taking your companion to Zilker Botanical Garden. Just don’t forget your leash! After working up an appetite walking, there is no better spot to rest and grab a bite to eat than Home Slice. With dog-friendly patio seating, pet water bowls and the best pizza in Texas, Home Slice is a favorite spot for dog owners in and around Kyle.

Is A New Park Coming to Kyle?

While there are many fun things to do in Kyle, TX, you simply just can’t beat having a new park! Whether you’re taking your furry friend out for a run or playing a game of volleyball, the proposed Kyle Vista Park will provide plenty of room to get out and play!

Proposed Kyle Vista Park

Kyle Vista Park is 10 years in the making and set to be the first major public park in the northeastern section of Kyle. The privately funded 46-acre park will include outdoor and indoor recreational activities, some which will require a small usage fee. The park will be located near the northwestern intersection of Dacy Lane and BeBee Rd. adjacent to Chapa Middle School.

Planned Park Facilities

Plans for the park include a large recreation center complete with a “tournament-class” tennis complex. The park could also include an indoor and outdoor volleyball facility, a potential skate park and a splash pad. The vision for Kyle Vista Park is to offer a myriad of recreational activities for the whole family and plenty of fun things to do in Kyle, TX. Although Kyle Vista Park is set to be completed in summer 2019, you can stay up-to-date with the park’s progress here.
