About Roughhouse Brewing in San Marcos

Located on 5 acres of a family ranch in San Marcos, this family-owned brewery serves refreshing, farmhouse-style beer. Founders Alex and Davy Pasternak appreciate the hard-working and straightforward way of life and have strived to create a beer that speaks to that lifestyle. Alex, who works on the sales and marketing side of the business, is captivated by a weathered and woody aesthetic and is working to make Roughhouse Brewing the rustic beer brand she has always envisioned. The brewery, complete with a tasting room inside a rustic barn, opened its doors in December 2018 and serves up cold brews Wednesdays from 12pm – 2pm, Thursdays & Fridays from 4pm – 9pm, Saturdays from 12pm – 9pm and Sundays from 12pm – 5pm.

The Cold Brews

The cold beer from Roughhouse Brewing in San Marcos is a perfect compliment to the Texas backdrop – dry, oaky and earthy. The farmhouse ales are brewed using traditional techniques supported by modern equipment. Currently, the brewery is serving up four distinct brews, including a low-alcohol everyday ale, a rustic and hoppy IPA, a farmhouse amber and a dark saison. The farmhouse amber, called “ONA”, is named after Great Grandma Mary Pasternak and features hints of cherry – a nod to those that Mary used to grow in her garden. Already love the beer and looking for other places you can find it? Check out Roughhouse Brewing’s ‘Where-to-Buy’ guide.

Beyond the Brews

Unique beer and beautiful views aren’t the only things showcased at Roughhouse Brewing in San Marcos. An onsite restaurant, S. Baker Kitchen, provides a tasty selection of smoked meats and shareable snacks. All the food offered at Roughhouse is distinctive and easy to share, making it a great compliment to the beer.

Growth in Kyle, Tx

While many people in Kyle are excited about what growth and development can bring to the community, just as many worry about what it will cost in taxes to achieve these things. Kyle has started to look to developers to solve this problem. Some of their solutions include the creation of a Residential Style Guide, implementing special taxing districts and working with regional partners, so development can pay for itself.

What’s coming to Uptown Kyle?

A good example of future development by the city is a proposal to the work on Uptown Kyle, a mixed-use development. New additions could include sit-down restaurants, boutique retail shops, destination retail, and premium office space.

The proposal will ask Kyle’s city council to authorize tax increment financing, a special taxing tool, to help finance the public amenities on location that will benefit Kyle as a whole. This includes things such as enhanced streetscapes, plazas, water features, parking structures and decorative lighting.

What Will the Hays Logistics Center Bring to Kyle?

Already one of the fastest growing suburbs in the state of Texas, Kyle is about to get even bigger. A new development sitting west of I-35, the Hays Logistics Center, might be the key to Kyle’s long-term future. When officials broke ground on the new 108-acre lot, they knew it was a step in the right direction. Now, as the first of two 200,000 square-foot buildings sets to open this winter, that dream is about to turn into reality.

What Will the Hays Logistics Center Bring to Kyle?

(Image via haysfreepress.com)

Why does Kyle need the Hays Logistics Center?

Approximately 85 percent of Kyle residents commute outside the city, which is not an ideal situation. With that knowledge, the city began pooling resources to make a place where residents can enjoy a high quality of life while working within the city they call home. The development is one part of the city’s strategic economic development plan, which aims at creating high paying jobs in Kyle. The availability of rentable space enhances the ability of the city to attract employers.

How did it happen?

The new center would not have been possible without the triple freeport tax exemption. This tax means a business does not have to pay an inventory tax on qualified freeport goods that leave the state within a 175-day period. A vote by the Hays CISD back in 2017 paved the way for this tax exemption and the development.

Kyle, a place to call home.

Viewed as a turning point in the city, the Hays Logistics Center is scheduled to house Alsco. The uniform and workwear services company has already started hiring for their Kyle location and is one of the first companies to set up shop at the center. With so much invested in the center by the city and its partners, there are sure to be even more companies that look to call Kyle home.

In Kyle, family comes first, and that’s why this development means so much. The ability to live and work in the city of Kyle extends benefits to both employer and employee. With all that’s going on, there’s little wonder why Kyle, TX is Austin’s next in-demand suburb. This is the perfect time to make the move to Kyle, and Crosswinds has plenty of available beautiful new homes starting from the $200s. Why Kyle is Austin’s Next In-Demand Suburb

If you haven’t heard, Kyle, Texas is Austin’s next in-demand suburb and it’s no surprise! In Austin, home prices are on the rise and time spent on the market is decreasing, causing homebuyers to look elsewhere for their next home. While Round Rock and other northern suburbs are still hot areas, consumers are looking to the south, specifically Kyle. If we know a thing or two about our hometown, it’s that it is a great place to live, but there are many benefits that make it Austin’s next in-demand suburb.

city of Kyle, Kyle TX, Crosswinds, new homes in Kyle, master-planned community, new homes near Austin, Austin suburb, Austin’s next in-demand suburb

Proximity

First and foremost, one of the biggest reasons Kyle is becoming the next popular Austin suburb is because of how close it is to the city. Only 20 miles from downtown, our master-planned community in Kyle offers families a place to call home that’s close enough to Austin without having to actually be in Austin. This makes commutes manageable and family outings to the big city a breeze.

Affordable Homes

Another thing making Kyle Austin’s next in-demand suburb is the affordably-priced homes. In June, the median price for single-family homes in Austin was $388,000 while the median price for single-family homes in Hays County was $284,900. And if you are a young family looking to own your first home, Crosswinds offers homes built by our 3 amazing homebuilders starting from the $200s.

Thriving Local Business Scene

As you may have read from our Keeping it Kyle blog series, the local businesses in the area are thriving, and as they continue to thrive, so does our community. Along with many local businesses, the Kyle City Council also recently approved plans for a new business park located 5 minutes away from Crosswinds. The 500,000-square-foot development aims to attract new manufacturing businesses and bring more jobs to the area.

A City Designed for Families and Lifestyle

In Kyle, we always put families first. That’s why the city is beginning to roll out what they call “quality of life initiatives” to give families even more wonderful things to do in Kyle. These initiatives include signature events, recreational amenities and trails, just to name a few.

What do you think about Kyle, TX being Austin’s next in-demand suburb? If you’re already a resident, we hope you’re excited to see all the continued growth in our community. If you aren’t a resident yet, but are ready to be, contact Crosswinds today. We’d love to show you around our master-planned community and tell you all about our lovely city.

The Scoop on La Ola Pop Shop

With experience going back for generations, this local Kyle business stems from a long line of Mexican Paleteros and Heladeros. That great depth of experience and family knowledge helped La Ola Pop Shop master the craft of making delightfully refreshing ice pops (paletas) and ice cream that help the people in Kyle, Texas beat this dastardly summer heat. Like some of our favorite local businesses in Kyle, La Ola Pop Shop is located in downtown Kyle and is the perfect stop to make before exploring all of downtown Kyle.

Paletas

Paletas/Ice Pops/Popsicles – it doesn’t matter what you call them. When it comes to the flavors, La Ola Pop Shop has more than you could ever ask for! They have refreshing fruit-based paletas like mango, pineapple and watermelon, but they also have cream-based paletas like pecan, Oreo and strawberry cheesecake. That isn’t even all! They also have seasonal flavors that they rotate, so make sure to ask about them when you visit. You won’t be disappointed.

Ice Cream

Now if you’re craving a treat that comes in a scoop and not a stick, then you’ll really want some of the amazing ice cream scooped up at La Ola Pop Shop! For a scoop that is refreshingly fruity, you’ll love their fruit-based ice creams like mango and strawberry. For your more classic, cream-based ice creams, they’re scooping up flavors like key lime pie, pistachio and, of course, chocolate. As with the paletas, they have seasonal flavors of ice cream that you can only discover by going to the store!

They don’t just stop at paletas and ice cream though! You’ll have to go visit them to see just all their cool concoctions.
