On Memorial Day, the City of Kyle honored service members by holding a groundbreaking of Heroes Memorial Park. The city invited the entire community to the event where they learned about the features that will be in the park that will be next to the Hays Performing Arts Center at 979 Kohlers Crossing.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
The event had a Procession by Honor Guards and three War Birds fly over to a cheering crowd. Girl Scout Troop 44809 set up memorial flags prior to the ceremony. According to Hays Free Press, the event provided more than just a groundbreaking honoring heroes. It was the first time for many to gather in a public setting.
The groundbreaking also celebrated long-time work in progress. After the groundbreaking, attendees were treated to barbecue served by AMVET Post.
Veterans stated they appreciate that the community is honoring the fallen as well as those who have served. It shows great respect. Heroes Memorial Park is possible thanks to general donations from Texas Disposal Systems with the leadership of Kyle City Council and Kyle TIRZ #2 Board members. Here’s a video of the groundbreaking.
What to Expect from Heroes Memorial Park
The estimation for the park’s completion is 12 to 15 months. When finished, the 138-acre park will have a list of service members’ names. It’ll have a quiet area with shade and natural stone edges by the water for reflection. A peace garden will feature unique plantings and an immersive lighting installation.
Picnic and active areas will be in shady spots. Next to the picnic area will be tree buffers from groupings of native trees. The park will also have a retail building and café serving food and drinks.
A “Heroes Walk” connects the event lawn and main memorial garden to the quiet edge of the park. The bridge hovers over water jets for an immersive experience. View the Heroes Memorial Park drawings to see how it will all come together.
